Online Grocers

By definition, an "online grocer" is a supermarket or service that allows online ordering of grocery items, typically for a small delivery fee with each purchase. They gained a lot of traction during the COVID-19 pandemic, because fewer people would leave their homes to go to physical store locations.

Many popular stores have their own websites or mobile apps that allow for delivery services, but there are also companies which specialize specifically in food delivery: going to the a store to pick out items, and delivering them to your doorstep.

2. How to Order

Most of these services use the same system to send your groceries to you. We can break down the two key components into setting up a delivery address and selecting/ordering the goods.

Location:

  1. Some stores may ask you to confirm your location or zip code before browsing for goods, to ensure you're ordering from the right store.

  2. Add your desired address for delivery. Make sure you select the correct address for shipping if you have more than one address per account.

  3. Some stores offer a "pick-up" option, where they prepare your order for you in advance, and you go to the ​​store to pick it up with no extra costs.

Shopping:

  1. Browse for items by searching their names. Sometimes, stores display an additional page with goods that are currently on sale.

  2. For each item, add it to your cart to include it in your order. (You can remove unwanted items from your cart by clicking on the cart icon and selecting remove)

  3. Once you have selected everything that you wish to buy, you can press the "Check out" button.

  4. Double check to confirm that you're satisfied with the address and time at which the goods will be delivered by and pay.
